What are some examples of privatization today or in recent history?

I'd like some examples of how privatization has benefited our society. The more impact they have the better!

1. privatization of telecommunications industry, and even part of the R&D of Military equipment. Privatization enables the producers to become more efficient since they are profit motivated and will produce at the lowest cost possible and offer a lower price to consumers than should a government produce the same good.
